Garment Fit Process
A Beginner's Guide – What to Expect When Going to the Tailor for the First Time
Don't bring dirty clothes, but be careful taking brand new items. Wash and dry your new items, so they have a chance to shrink a bit, then see if they still need tailoring.
Our team of onsite tailors and seamstresses do everything from repairing a snag to altering your garment to achieve the perfect fit. If you are headed to a tailor for the first time here are a few things you should know:
Know Your Preferences
We all have different preferences when it comes to the fit of our clothing. Be sure to know how you would like the item you are having tailored to fit and be comfortable communicating that with your tailor so you can get exactly what you want!
Is the Material Difficult to Work With?
Of course our team of experts can help with even the most difficult fabrics, but it is important for you to know what fabrics are more challenging to work with. With materials like silk or leather you can expect that they may take a bit longer and plan accordingly.
Purchase the Right Size
When you are purchasing an item with the intention of having it tailored be sure to choose the correct size. A great tip – pick an item that fits the widest part of your body and then have it tailored down.
Be Prepared
This is simple but key to remember. Be sure to bring the shoes you would likely wear with whatever items you are having tailored. Having the correct shoe will prevent your tailor from having to guess on the best length and give you a better fit.
Check the Fit
Once your tailor has pinned your item be sure to move around a bit and check the items fit in a mirror. Communicate if you would like any additional changes!
